I Should Be a Witness
Now that I am a Christian, I must be a witness for Christ. A witness is one who tells others about Jesus both by his words and his deeds. Now that the Lord has saved me from sin, I must share the good news of salvation with everyone.
A CHRISTIAN IS A WITNESS
By now you have probably noticed how willing most Christians are to talk about Jesus Christ. Anyone who loves the Lord naturally wants to talk about Him. The act of talking about Jesus and what He has done for men is one of the major things that Christ demands of you as a Christian believer.
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he told His followers: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).
The disciple Andrew was a good example of a proper Christian witness. After Jesus had been baptized in the Jordan River, Andrew and John followed Him to the place where He was staying. After spending much of that day with the Lord, Andrew went searching for his brother, Simon Peter, and told him: "We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ" (John 1:41), he then brought Peter to Jesus.
Although most converts publicly accept Jesus in a chruch service, in most cases they first become interested in the gospel through the faithful witnessing of Christian believers. There are several reasons for this:
1. A Christian is genuinely concerned for the eternal well-being of others;
2. A Christian is so in love with Christ that he cannot remain silent about Him; and,
3. Most sinners do not come into a church service without being invited to do so.
Every true Christian considers it his personal responsibility and joy to witness for Jesus at every possible opportunity. It is not difficult to talk about what we love the most.
A CHRISTIAN REPRESENTS CHRIST
Now that you have become a follower of Christ, you are His personal representative to the lost about you.
The Bible says: "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:20). As a Christian, you must consider it your personal duty to talk about Christ and represent His cause. You should begin as soon as possible to tell your immediate family, your relatives, and your friends what the Lord has done in your life.
When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man who had been wandering among the tombs, He told the man: "Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him" (Luke 8:39).
A CHRISTIAN QUOTES THE BIBLE
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He replied to the devil by quoting the Scriptures. You also need to know the Bible well in order to reply effectively to the temptations and the arguments of the world. The truth you are to proclaim is written in the Word of God, so you will want to quote often from the Bible in your witnessing. Witness for Christ with confidence that the Holy Spirit will continue to speak to your hearers long after you have gone. A sinner once asked a Christian, "Are you an authority on the Bible?" The Christian replied, "Yes, sir, for the experience of salvation described in its pages has occurred in my own life."
QUESTIONS
Now that you are a Christian, are you a witness? Are you telling others about Jesus and what He has done for you? Witnessing for Christ will make you a strong Christian and give you a chance to share with your friends the good news of salvation.
